JEFFSOL® Carbonates

JEFFSOL® carbonates are used in numerous applications that need:

  • Outstanding solvency
  • High flash
  • Low VOC
  • Low evaporation
  • Readily biodegradable
  • Exhibit low toxicity.

JEFFSOL® EC (ethylene carbonate), JEFFSOL® PC (propylene carbonate) and JEFFSOL® GC (glycerine carbonate) are non VOC’s according to EU dir 1999/13/EC.

JEFFSOL® carbonates can be used as “safe” and environmentally friendly solvents thus replacing hazardous and highly volatile solvents like methylene chloride, acetone and aromatic solvents.

JEFFSOL® carbonates can be used as a reactive intermediate replacing ethylene and propylene oxides, and ethylene and propylene glycols in many reactions. Where substitution occurs, use of the carbonates may allow for a more selective reaction and minimizes side reactions and contaminants.

Also available are carbonate blends of JEFFSOL® EC and PC.  Also UltraPure® grades with high purity for sensitive applications like batteries and microelectronics.

JEFFSOL ® GC Glycerine carbonate Renewable based product (76% wt% renewable) that is a non-VOC in Europe.

Unique, difunctional cyclic carbonate with high boiling point, good solvency and low toxicity.

Allows polyurethanes to be made without isocyanates.

Used in urethane coatings, clear coatings, solvents, polycarbonate polymers and as a reactive intermediate. Personal care applications include use as a moisturising agent and wetting agent. 		 
JEFFSOL® EC Ethylene carbonate Excellent solvent for inorganic and organic systems.

Typically used in surface coatings, plastics and as an intermediate for polyester preparation and materials that are difficult to hydroxyalkylate with EO or PO. 		 
JEFFSOL® PC Propylene carbonate VOC exempt solvent.

Excellent solvent for inorganic and organic systems. Typically used in cleaners & degreasers, plastics, natural gas. A gellant for clays and a binder for foundries.
