Dermacare Kit

Topical dosage forms are mostly used to treat dermatological diseases and/or deliver drugs to localised tissues. Increasingly topical formulations are OTC medicines so patient choice and brand loyalty are becoming increasingly important.

As such it is important that the cosmetic aspects of a topical product are considered during its development.
Gattefossé has experience in both the pharmaceutical performance of its topical excipients, but also in the cosmetic aspects of its products from its involvement in the personal care industry. Gattefossé has combined this knowledge to develop the Dermacare Kit.

The Dermacare Kit comprises of a brochure that includes mini-monographs describing the properties of some of Gattefossé’s key emulsifiers – Apifil, Gelot 64, Sedfos 75, Plurol Diisostearique and Tefose 63, as well as advice on how to formulate a topical dosage form. A placebo cream has been prepared for each emulsifier that has been developed for its enhanced sensorial properties.

Formulators can then use the kit to help select a formulation that suits their drug substance and has the desired sensory properties, e.g. the treatment of irritated or damaged skin requires a cream that has good spreadability, rapid absorption and a soft afterfeel.
