Gaiamare Rubies Fossil Salt

The Rubies salts originated in the region now know as the Ebro Valley and the plain of Bages in Catalonia Spain, approximately 40 million years ago. The Eocene sea became engulfed by geological movements, resulting in the sea becoming separated and dehydrated. During this period, climatic conditions of very high temperatures resulted in seaweed being subjected to strong evaporation. Consequently, the concentration of dissolved salts increased to the point that the dissolve salts precipitated when it reached its optimum saturation point. Seaweed was stored in the salty layers. As a result, today we find these layers of salt with a thickness of up to 3000M. The attractive pink/orange colour comes from the deposits of marine life. The colours appear in various shades in the crystals.
