Gaiamare Fossil Mud

Gattefossé UK, in partnership with the Spanish company Gaiamare SL, is able to offer a range of semi-formulated saline muds for cosmetic and therapeutic use. These muds are by-products obtained from refining salt extracted from a depth of 700m, near the Spanish coast of Catalonia. The salt crystals which deposited during the Eocene period, trapped grains of marine clay, hence the name “Fossil Mud”. The mud is very rich in minerals and completely free from any modern pollutants found in fresh marine mud. The Mud contains between 20 and 30% salts and minerals and is an excellent ingredient to use in cosmetic formulations. However for direct applications on the skin, we suggest one of the formulated muds described below, which are enriched with either red clay (Magnesium Aluminium Silicate), grey clay (Bentonite) or white clay (Kaolin). In addition, some muds are enriched with essential oils to boost their therapeutic effect.

It has an anti-inflammatory action on the joints and a relaxing and anti-contraction effect on the muscles.
