JEFFAMINE® Polyetheramines

JEFFAMINE® Polyetheramines are an extremely versatile product range.  Mainly used to increase flexibility, toughness, hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity (depending on the product used), they also offer various reactivities, good temperature stabilities, are essentially colourless and have a low viscosity.

Advantages over other amine-based products JEFFAMINE® Polyetheramines offer lower toxicity, reduced tendency to discolour and as the amines can be hindered they can be less reactive.  Hindering the amines allows slower reactions e.g. with epoxy resins and better colour stability.

JEFFAMINE® Polyetheramines versatility comes from a wide range of molecular weights, amine functionality, repeating unit type and distribution.  The range, which is based on ethylene oxide (EO), propylene oxide (PO), an EO/PO mix and Polytetramethylene glycol (PTMEG), consists of Monoamines, Diamines, Tiamines, Secondary amines, Hindered amines and PTMEG-based amines

The main advantages are:

  • Good low temperature properties
  • Flexibility
  • Toughness
  • Hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity (depending on the product used)
  • Controlled moisture absorption.

Useful for a wide range of applications that include epoxy curing, polyurea and polyamides in a range of coatings, ink resins, adhesives, elastomers, hot melt adhesives, sealants, engineering plastics and composites.  Other applications include cement additives, oilfield (demulsification) and acid neutralisation.  The range of dispersant applications is also growing.

Popular JEFFAMINE® Polyetheramine grades are detailed in the table below, other grades are available.

Products

Product Name Description Applications/Benefits Add to My Enquiry
JEFFAMINE® D-2000 Polyether diamine Key ingredient in polyurea and RIM (reactive injection moulded) systems. Co-reactant in epoxy systems.

Improves flexibility and peel strength. Low viscosity, colour and vapour pressure.
JEFFAMINE® D-230 Polyether diamine Epoxy curing agent. Used to create hot melt adhesives. Reacts quickly with isocyanates. Salts can form readily for surfactant use.

Provides tough, clear (no surface blush as with other curing agents) impact resistant coatings, adhesives and castings. Miscible in many solvents.
JEFFAMINE® D-400 Polyether diamine Epoxy curing agent. Used in polyurethanes, polyureas and thermoplastic polyamide adhesives. Salts from the product could be used in cutting fluids.

Provides increased flexibility and toughness. Miscible in many solvents.
JEFFAMINE® ED-2003 Polyether diamine Key ingredients in epoxy modifiers, water-based coatings, water-soluble polyurea, hydrophilic polymers and anti-static agents.

The key benefits are water solubility, reactivity and low colour and vapour pressure.
JEFFAMINE® EDR-176 Polyether diamine Moderately fast epoxy curing agent that provides cured resins with good mechanical properties and thermal and impact shock resistance.

Used in polyamides to modify hydrophilicity and flexibility.

Other applications where reactivity and high purity diamines are required e.g. coatings
JEFFAMINE® SD-2001 Polyetheramine, secondary amine Used in coatings and polymers. Chain extender for polyurethanes and polyurea. Used for isocyanate prepolymer formation.

A slower reacting amine allows the cure speed to be slowed down in polyurea and polyurethane elastomeric coating systems.
JEFFAMINE® T-403 Polyether triamine Used as an epoxy curing agent and as an anti-sag additive for polyurethanes.

Polyurea elastomer systems use JEFFAMINE® to react rapidly with the isocyanates removing the need for catalysts.

The key benefits are its miscible in many solvents, flexibility, strength, low vapour pressure and low colour.
JEFFAMINE® T-5000 Polyether triamine Polyurea elastomer systems use JEFFAMINE® to react rapidly with the isocyanates removing the need for catalysts.

Provide flexibility and promote adhesion as a co-reactant in epoxy systems.

Benefits include increased peel strength, toughness and low colour.
