Synerlight 2 – proven age spot reduction

Gattefossé have reformulated one of their best known products for reducing age spots and excess melanin – Synerlight 2. This product is a synergistic combination of two ingredients – sophora root extract and kiwi fruit water, and is now formulated in a preservative free blend.
Sophora root is well known in Chinese medicine for curing conditions such as eczema, dry skin and infections. Kiwi fruit water is active against tyrosinase enzymes and has a complexion brightening property. Together these two ingredients have a strong skin brightening and melanin inhibiting function.

Synerlight 2 has a portfolio of claims support, including a de-pigmentation study using melanin producing cells mixed with a melanin stimulating enzyme. The cells were dosed with increasing amounts of Synerlight 2 and it was found that at a level of 1% melanin production was completely inhibited.
A study was also done comparing the cytotoxic effect of Synerlight 2 with Kojic acid. It was found that no cytotoxic effect was seen when Synerlight 2 was applied to a cell culture, however the toxic effect of Kojic acid was shown to be very high, deactivating around 80% of the cells in the culture.
Synerlight 2 is recommended for use in anti-aging products, particularly for mature skin with age spots and excess melanin, brightening formulations, foundations etc. Use level is 0.5-3%. Can be used as a direct replacement for Kojic acid.
